Frequently Asked Questions

What is a BEN (Billed Entity Number)?

A BEN is the unique identifier USAC assigns to every school, library, or library system that participates in the E-Rate program. Each entity has exactly one BEN, and it persists through funding years. Looking up a BEN shows you the entity's complete E-Rate funding history.

How do I find a school's BEN?

You can find a BEN in USAC's EPC portal, on any USAC commitment letter (FCDL), or by searching the USAC Open Data Portal. If you're a consultant, your clients' BENs are in their EPC accounts under 'Entity Information'.

Where does this BEN tracker get its data?

All data is sourced directly from the USAC Open Data Portal. We query USAC's public Form 471 FRN dataset in real time so the funding figures and statuses reflect USAC's most recent published data.

Is this BEN tracker really free? Do I need an account?

Yes — completely free, no signup required. Look up any BEN instantly. If you want ongoing monitoring and automatic alerts when an entity's FRNs change status, you can create a free SkyRate account.

Why are no FRNs showing for a BEN?

An entity may have no USAC records if it has never filed a certified Form 471, if the BEN is very new, or if the entity's BEN recently changed. Try searching for the entity in USAC's EPC portal to confirm the correct BEN.
